It is a merge between singing karaoke and being the singer in a live band. The singer is usually the lead singer in the center of the stage behind the center microphone stand; there is usually a karaoke screen at the karaoke singer's feet. The karaoke screen has the words to the song being done scrolling or flipping from one page to the next on it. The live band karaoke singer uses this screen to help remember the words to the song.
Typically the band doesn't use a karaoke screen for the words to the song because the band members are performing songs they know without any aid. So during Live Band Karaoke the Band's drummer, bass guitar player, lead guitar player and such are performing songs they have a no assistance ability at and they help the singer with that song.

This is really fun to watch and to participate in as a singer. Watching a nervous newbie hesitantly start to sing for the first time with a live band, then loosen up a little after the first few lines of the song, and then relax into their own voice as they realize it's-fun-and-I-can-do-this is simply a treat.
Watching gracious members of the host band is also enjoyable. Most of these musicians love music and enjoy passing on their passion by helping others become comfortable on stage with a live audience.
And singing is equally thrilling. Hearing the backup vocals of experienced professional singers merge with your own voice during your own song is an "Aha!" moment about the smile you see on the faces of so many musicians on a stage.
A new direction for live music and karaoke; Live Band Karaoke may become a sensation in the coming decade!
